I have just got a boar from Freeads, his hutchmate had died and his Humans no longer wanted to keep guineas. They said he was castrated so I have put him straight in with my sows. But, he is acting like an entire boar? Is this normal?
Firstly the boar should have been quarintined for at least 4 weeks.
Whenever RGPR admit a 'castrated boar' we ask for vet references and confirmation that operation has taken place.
Newly castrated boars are sometimes excited on first meeting a sow or a sow that is new to them. Even boars that have been living with sows for a while may get renewed feelings when they are put with a different sow.
Or, the boar you have just adopted might not be castrated- the only way to find this out is to trace back to the surgery (and preferably vet) who performed the op.
