I have heard from a number of people recently that have been prescribed a 'Penicillin product' to give to their guinea pig. Guineas do not tolerate Penicillin- don't give it. These cases were not 'do or die' ones, in fact the alternatives had not even been eliminated from use, one was 'well it worked alright on a rat I treated'. That's because rats tolerate Penicillin and guineas don't! Penicillin isn't always called Penicillin, the product will usually end in 'mycin' or 'cillin' don't be afraid to question anything unfamiliar your vet prescribes- 'Your guinea pigs, their life', remember .

I believe it takes 4-7 days for the Penicillin to have negative effects.
