Many thanks to Paula who has just told us about the recommendation on the internet to PUT TO SLEEP a guinea pig that has a dramatic change in behaviour! Hopefully people will have more sense than to take this ridiculous advice, whilst guinea pigs certainly do have behaviour issues they are resolved when given time and patience. There is no 'norm' for guinea pigs to conform to (except their natural one, but so many are humanised that 'natural' behaviour is too often not encouraged) but their characteristics can be catered for, unlike a dog perhaps, who could be viewed as a danger to society if not kept in the correct surroundings (however, I would still argue that a suitable home/environment could be found in lots of cases). I have had several guineas with 'behaviour issues' this year and all are now well and happy and living like guinea pigs with their new friends Once again I believe that if all the 5 Freedoms are observed, at the very least, there would be a lot less guinea pigs with behavioural issues.
