Hello,
I was wondering if anyone can recommend a way to help bond my single boar with my pair of boars? My single boar, Hector is a big boy of about 6 months, and my pair of boys are Dante (a slim peruvian boar of about 1 year) and Henry (my healthy baby of about 4 months). Dante and Henry get on well, I suppose as it is obvious whose the alpha male, but Dante and Hector fight like mad - to the point where they're drawn blood while I've tried to slowly introduce them (Hector know has a scar on his ear, poor thing). Hector and Henry get ok, but again I suppose that's because Henry is obviously the beta male in that pair too.
They all live in a large C&C cage, but Hector is in a quartered off section on his own. It's funny, he and Dante will sit perfectly contentedly next to each other through the grids, but as soon as they're allowed out with each other (on neuteral space, on clean fleece with clean toys) during floor time, Dante and Hector are immediately at each others throats. To be honest, Dante does seem to be the one rushing at Hector and starting the fights.
I may try bathing them all together, as that helped when I introduced a baby sow to my three other girlies. I was just wondering if there's anything that you do to bond piggies that I'm missing.
Hector may get on ok with my ladies, so it may just be a case of having him neutered. But if he and Dante can learn to get along that would be better, I don't want to put Hector through surgery if I don't have to, especially as piggies don't always cope too well with anaesthetic.
I suppose another alternative would be to see if he would get on with another piggie altogether? Karen - do you other bond single males? Does it often work? I would love to see him happy with a little piggie friend of his own. It's very sad to have to separate the poor little guy!
Any tips would be very welcome!
Thanks so much for listening (well reading)!
Best wishes and many thanks,
Tess
