There are a variety of types of 'lumps and bumps', therefore the 'type' will obviously influence the treatment given.
Sometimes no treatment is given.
In the case of abscesses treatment MUST be given, they must be lanced with a scalpel (no need for anaesthetic in the majority of cases) and then flushed with either pure water or Hartmans Solution or Ringers.
Mammary Tumours: We have mammary tumours removed when they're diagnosed, they won't go away and may get bigger. It's personal choice but the guinea must not be left to suffer if the tumour does get bigger and starts pressing on other organs etc. Sebaceous cysts are easily lanced and the matter 'excreted'. Sometimes they come back and you need to return to the vet for it to be lanced.
Ovarian Cysts Treatment for these used to be complete removal of the reproductive system, however this is now unnecessary but a full course must be given for it to be effective. One of our sows also had her cysts drained, this isn't something that every vet is confident doing, I would suggest not insisting that your vet do it if he/she doesn't want to!
There are more, but these are some of the more common ones.
