A variety of hays should always be made available (not necessarily over a 24 hour period, but over a wheek). So strictly speaking hay is not a treat but a necessity. Hay should be making up 80% of your guinea pig's diet. It should be a 'good hay' as opposed to expensive. Aslong as the hay is good it can be the cheapest component of the diet making guineas cheap to feed. A further selection can be fed if money allows and will be appreciated by the guineas. Not all hay has the same nutritional values, some hays should not be fed ad lib.
