Only extremely rarely and only if it is going to hinder the recovery.
Abscesses come in many forms but even the ones where a restriction on movement is needed do not call for guinea pigs to be seperated. Just make sure that a gentle guinea pig is put in for company as opposed to one that will constantly chase the injured party round the cage.
It's bad enough having an abscess, being seperated from your friends is just depressing...
Calista remained with her friends throughout treatment for her tooth root abscess. She doesn't react well to having Baytril, separation would have been a double wammy for her.
