As of opening in January 2009 I will only be taking in guineas from the Reading and Oxon area unless they are admitted by an Inspector or ACO as an emergency. I regret to have to do this but after much thought and having to turn away 6 emergency pigs (that have found somewhere to stay now) I don't see any other way round it. It will be interesting to see if this makes any difference at all and frees up room for local guinea pigs. That said all the guineas here currently are local save for one who was from London... So it wouldn't have made any difference to the now 39 pigs that I have had to send away this month. The benefit that I can see is that it won't be adding to our guinea pig population in Reading and Oxon by bringing in from other counties etc. At no time have I taken or pursued any Free Ads guinea pigs, these have a roof over their heads and a home is already being sought. Please think very carefully before getting your guinea pigs or taking in more, the current situation is suggesting that things are a whole lot worse than expected. If I was being really harsh I would say that as I only rehome about 40 odd guineas a year then its not a good idea to take in more than that but unfortunately things don't work out quite that accurately It's encouraging to know that other rescues are thinking along similar lines when managing their intake. Otherwise I would just feel like the big bad wolf
