At RGPR we do not support the 'Freeads' and similar as a way of finding homes for animals. We know for a fact this has caused guineas to have unstable homes and simply passed from 'pillar to post' until a home is found.
Often people will take them in temporarily but become unstuck when they find temporarily is longer than 3 months or so!
People use these adverts as a way to get started in rescue (not unlike 'rescuing' from a pet shop). Whilst there are cases that need attention on there supporting something that the RSPCA do not approve of is surely wrong?
The animals can be sold/given to anyone without any advice and can lead to them ending up in rescue because they have been taken on without any information etc being given. It is simply a cheap way of getting a pet.
If you need to rehome your guinea pigs contact your local rescue for advice or see the Rescue V Rehoming them yourself thread.
In short: by using Freeads and the like you are supporting a 'system' that is not ideal for the animals.
