No and there is no radiological evidence to support this myth! There is in fact cartilage not bone, the cartilage become more 'fixed' with age but it doesn't make it impossible for the sow to birth. Whilst an older giving birth isn't desirable at all many sows manage it successfuly.
All pregnancies carry risk, ones in older sows might carry more if they are birthing for the first time and they are well into their first year but it is not a foregone conclusion that there will be problems.

A prime example of the pelvic bones NOT fusing are the lovely Krystal (age 5 and a half years!!!) and her granddaughter Gem (age 2 years). Krystal has been bred from previously and she arrived here 4 days prior to littering down again. Gem had never had a litter and although had difficulties with her birthing they were not related to her age or the fact that she had never littered.
