Ther is no set age or weight at when you should get your boar castrated not only because they develop at different rates but vets have their own preferences too and as it's them doing the op I prefer to go with their recommendations!
Phoning a surgery and asking 'what age do you recommend doing castrates on guinea pigs?' is putting a lot of pressure on the person being asked unless thay feel that its 'OK' to say that there is no 'right time'.
Young boars' skin tears easier than older boars and some vets do not like doing operations early for this reason. If the testicles haven't descended then the age of the pig may be irrelevant! A well developed boar whose testicles have descended is fine to operateon providing the vet is happy with this, pushing a vet to do something they are not happy about is not a good idea, there is, more often than not, a reason for being ill at ease about something.
Always seek the opinion of the vet who is operating, not the receptionists 'thoughts' or the general rule for the practise' or the advise of friends etc, talk to the person who will be performing the operation.
