2 doses at 10 days apart (ie day 1 and day10) are needed to treat mites. Day 1 will kill off the current mites that are sucking blood and the day 10 dose will kill off any eggs that are on the body on day1 but don't get killed by the first dose. Ivomec is present in the body for up to 14 days but a second dose should always be given or you are running the risk of creating superbugs that are immune to Ivermectin. ALWAYS complete the course and ALWAYS shampoo your guinea pig, shampooing is part of the cure (not the whole cure) and will remove some eggs and parasite debris that causes irritation also. Shampooing is often 'forgotten advice' these days with mites but is in fact a great help to those recovering from mites. I use Manuka and Neem shampoo from www.gorgeousguineas.co.uk on guineas with parasitic problems.

I also believe that when given as a regular 'dosing' Ivermectin and Panacur should be given as the full course in order that superbugs don't become resistant. Personally I don't use these heavyweights for regular dosing for that very reason.
