Bella is mum, Sprout is the big baby and the big boss.
I got them from a large pet store and they were the last two sows left. When I got them home, Sprout even though 'weaned' was trying to hide under Bella and possibly suckle too.
Bella, a very reluctant and possible teenage mum wasn't too happy to have a needy, quiet, jumpy baby around her, for Bella had been adored quite literally by the Shop Girls who looked quite sad when she left with me. I understand that she had had a nasty UTI and it had taken a while for it to clear up. She was used to demanding a lot of attention and is extremely loving and jealous to this day.
I feel quite sorry for Sprout because the first time I saw her she was curled up with her sister and it must have been a big shock for them to have been separated. The good news is that Sprout developed a (really big) character, which started off with an underarm tickle and being called NAWTEE SPROUTEE many times. Then, she just took over and just became Top Pig in the cage. Sproutee, Sproutlet, Sprout the explorer, Sproutee the bold! ... Sprouticus even and the louder you say it and higher pitched, the more she gets excited by these names!
Both of my girls love Spinach. They love it so much that they have a special squeak for it, they know when it has been on the shopping list, they know that is is kept in the big grey thing and they know, that if they hear the sound that the big grey thing makes when it opens, they can actually bully me and Alex to handing over some golden jewelery. BUT strangely enough Sprout always manages to incite Bella to do the loud bullying squeaking. However, you can rustle any old bag and they will squeak in hope.
One really cute story is that they were having their usual run around in the bathroom and I was doing the washing up in the kitchen when they decided that they wanted a wonder out of the bathroom and into the kitchen, stand in front of the big grey thing and chirp at it. It is the best fridge worship I've seen. Maybe it does open on it's own!!! SQUEAK SQUEAK!!!!
Another brilliant sight was when we were looking after a friends hamster and Sprout had been looking at her quite a lot. Bella and Sprout were out in the garden at my parents and get supervised because they didn't have a proper run then. They were enclosed in a plastic covered large square mesh supported by crocket loops. Mum and I were having a chat when we were taken by surprise by first Sprout jumping onto the top of the loop and pulling herself up the plastic mesh!! Followed by a skittle shaped Bella trying to haul herself onto the loop in a half hearted way, literally giving up at the first hurdle!
Anyway, I have just rambled.
I will have to figure out how to put pictures on here.
