Does rehoming with breeders mean more unwanted pigs?
Firstly define breeder! There are different sorts. A breeder in the cavy Fancy that breeds purebreds would not want to use stock with unknown history in their breeding. As the majority of the guineas coming into rescue (RGPR anyway) are ex pet shop stock it is very unlikely a breeder would want one in the first place in my opinion.
I have put pigtures of Abby looking pigs on Guinea Pig Rehome and been contacted by someone calling themself a 'breeder'. They insisted they didn't show and just wanted 'pretty pets'. From what i could deduce this person knew very little about breeding anyway, even if I had wanted to rehome to them (which I didn't as it against my better judgement and RSPCA conditions as set out on our legally enforcable document.).
However, RGPR asks that people have less than 10 pigs if they wish to adopt from us, as I want our guineas to go to homes where they will receive lots of attention. There is always the exception to the rule and each home is judged on its merits.
