0 Whilst RGPR don't condone breeding for the sake of it (eg pets, evenif they are going to be kept), we do not advise breeding during the summer months, pregnancy is a natural state but in the heat it is not a comfortable one! 0 Travelling with guineas in the heat is unwise too, that includes showing and 'piggy trains'. Adopt from your local rescue or breeder rather than subjecting guineas to an unnecessary trip. 0 Put wet towels over the cage and put a fan behind it to blow moisture through. The aim is to take water out of the environment- not put it back in. An air conditioner can be bought for £199 and do a good job of cooling the environment by removing moisture- this also dries the air which is the state that is needed An expensive outlay but probably not too much more than the cost of an emergency trip to the vets plus medicines- or even the cost of your guinea's life Air conditioning machines can last for years, potentially saving lots of money in vets bills and, of course making your guinea pigs comfortable. 0 When you go on holiday the person boarding your guineas must be competent at treating heatstroke as must their vet. How often are the guineas checked? What facilities are there for cooling the ENVIRONMENT, 'ice bottles' and cold tiles are not enough on their own. 0 Do not give frozen food, guinea pigs must have food at room temperature, save the home made lollies for your self
