Guinea pigs come into milk up to 12 hours after the birth, the pups are born with enough reserves to keep them going, they do, however, need to be 'washed' thoroughly by mum to stimulate bloodflow and things in general.
Mum will preferably gather the pups round her but often they will go to her.
