Who is responsible for enforcing the law regarding the welfare of animals in pet shops?DEFRA states that it is the responsibilty of the local authority to enforce the law that concerns the welfare of animals in pet shops (and similar). Anyone that has an issue with the welfare of animals at a pet shop should contact their local authority. www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/welfare/domestic/index.htmSee the Pet Animals Act 1951 (amended 1983) at the link above.
