There are people who put their guinea pigs 'out to stud' though I have never come across a member of the Cavy Fancy that does this to the general public.
There are no rules and regulations on this and the boar coulds have picked up anything from the sows he has been put with. There are such things as sexually transmitted diseases in guinea pigs. These can cause abortion, sterility and sometimes death... Not to mention other infections skin, respiratory etc) that may or may not occur.
Do you know if it is safe to use a boar with a cauliflower willy for breeding? Can he infect your sow?
Do you what lines this boar is carrying? Breeders in the Cavy Fancy will know that in some varieties it is advisable to only breed certain lines together and breeding others must be avoided at all costs.
Is your sow a satin? Do you know whether she is carrying Osteodystrophy or if she has it? If she has it it is possible that she will die while giving birth and at best will have an extremely difficult one.
Needless to say this practise is definitely NOT recommended.
