In Jan of this year I lost my guinea pig of 7 years (her sister a few years before) and decided to get some more rescue guineas. I went to get two however when i got there the ones I was going to rescue had gone. There was one there who was very timid, but when I heard the story of how he had been literally thrown away in a bin and that he had been there for approximately 6 months as people were put off by his timidness I had to give him a new home. Because of his timidness I didn't think it was the right thing to do to put him with another, however in the last 6 months he has been completely spoilt and is a different pig, very talkative and loves his strokes and cuddles and I really feel that he would love a companion as everytime my two cats go up to the cage to say hi, he runs up to see them!
I've been trying to gather as much information as possible about what is the best thing to do with regards to boys or girls and it seems that a female would work although he would have to be neutered. You may tell me differently? I really think he would love a friend especially moving towards the dark nights etc and someone to snuggle with.
If you could let me know and also if you have a guinea pig/s who would fit the bill that would be great.
Thanks
Niki
p.s. attached a photo of Scrappy.
p.p.s. He is kept in a large cage on our veranda so outside but away from the elements under the roof and has a run for going out on the grass with a cover.
